Light versus Dark Kitchens

Last week we spent a day shopping for the perfect stone slab for our client's kitchen. While the timeless white kitchens are still around, dark kitchens are increasingly favored. This .....slab of... is luxurious and moody and will set an elegant tone.

Next we are looking to add small accents of brass hardware on possibly a dark matte cabinet simple shaker door.

The comeback of Bold Wallpaper

The days of outdated and difficult to deal with wallpaper are long gone. Now an industry favorite, wallpaper made a significant comeback in the past few years and the 2018 predictions show that it's here to stay.

Big, bold colorful prints are fun and make the space special. This lovely Farrow and Ball print is used in this Muskoka cottage bathroom to transforms how we perceive the room. Notice how the angles of the roof are actually less visible and more fluid with this visually bold finish. It's abstract nature pattern ties into the cottage-theme carried throughout the home.

Staying within it, the kids' bathroom plays on the fauna of the land in this chic gold-on-blue retro colour combo.

Getting ready to photograph the latest home project

The front door can tell lots about the house you have. Pay attention to it otherwise, it's a lost opportunity. There is a world of difference between thoughtful, integrated front entrance design and 'just pick a door from what we have' scenario.

This wonderful example is standing between me and our latest interior. Going in with my photographer, excited to get the best angles of our work. Stay tuned for the results, we will put the house series up in the next few weeks.

Office lunch for the holiday..

Opted for Sushi Legend this year, great choice. Slightly late in the day, we were all hungry...something to remember for the next time.. Makes you wonder if food is as good as you think or as good as your hunger is..

Happy New Year!

With a new year comes a new start. We're on to some positively exciting developments here at Dochia that will launch our Voice in the world of design beyond interiors.

As a first step, we're complementing the existing running blog with this News Feed that will strictly deal with the daily activities of the interior design practice.

From design dilemas on current projects, to lunch and learns, to photos of ongoing projects or sketches and material boards we may have on the go, this will be your portal to our daily creative processes, revelations and sometimes, struggles.

You will see us for who we are and what we offer to our clients every day. This will be the uncut version of our polished design products, the good the bad and the ugly that comes before the great reveal.

In parallel, My 2 cents on design Blog will continue on with content that you're by now used to, and will maintain and grow its focus on expertise, design opinions and so much more! Without revealing too much of what there is to come on that front, the quality, values, lifestyle and harmony of what Dochia stands for and believes life-as-you-know-it is all about, will permeate all our endeavors and be yours to explore, learn from and enjoy. Come back for more!
