FOREST HILL HOME RENOVATION

The greatest merit of this Forest Hill renovation project is the integration of visually rich interior elements and décor with the intricate layout and character of the existing home.

Renovating is always a challenge but, when faced with the renovation of a house with strong character, that challenge multiplies. With a small footprint and a fully usable attic, the three-storey home had numerous rooms all modestly sized. From the beginning we were faced with a tight foyer with a tucked-in stair, living, dining, bedrooms and den all separated, a cluttered main floor office and a third floor multi-use space that was not fully capitalized on.

Going the modern way and opening it all up did not work in this instance due to multiple structural and lifestyle requirements. So instead, we decided to take a different approach and instead of unifying, we treated each room as separate entities defined by their own character.  Being focused on the details of traditional formalism generated a rich aesthetic that unified the home not so much through finishes but instead, through its bold approach to ornament, décor, and colour intensity. This brought each room into it’s own new spotlight.
